History is the study of the past and we seek to teach students in an interesting and stimulating manner. We use a wide range of approaches including DVD/video material, textbooks, extended writing and visits. Students are encouraged to develop their knowledge and understanding through extended writing and project work. The atmosphere in History classrooms is animated and thoughtful.

Key Stage 3

This is a core subject for all Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8) students. The course covers the following topics over the two years:

  • The Norman Invasion of England
  • Medieval Religion and the Crusades
  • The Tudors
  • The English Civil War
  • The French Revolution
  • The Industrial Revolution
  • The British Empire
  • Civil Rights
  • World War One
  • World War Two

Key Stage 4

Beyond Key Stage 3 we currently offer GCSE History to Years 9, 10 and 11.

• The Cold War
• Elizabeth I
• Germany 1918-1939

Key Stage 5 History

Y12 – AQA AS/A-Level:
• The Tudors
• Germany 1918-1945

Y13 Edexcel A-Level:
• Germany 1900–45
• Individual Study: China in the Twentieth Century
