Television voiceover roles for talented student

A young Trinity student is making a name for herself in the world of cartoon voiceover acting for not one but two international television channels.

Maisie Marsh (11), from Hatfield, has her sights firmly set on a career performing in the West End, and is already well on the way after reaching the final auditions for roles in Matilda and School of Rock.

However, it is another of her talents that Maisie is currently enjoying huge success with, having beaten off competition from scores of other young hopefuls to be chosen as the voices for two popular children’s cartoon characters.

Maisie voices Abby Hatcher in the Nick Jr series of the same name, and also has another main role in the Netflix/Dreamworks animation ‘Dragons: Rescue Riders’ as Aggro the fire dragon.

The roles see her travel to MediaCity in Manchester and to London where she records several episodes in one day.

“It’s weird hearing your voice on TV,” Maisie admitted, “but I love the fact that you can still act even if your face isn’t shown.”

Maisie started her voiceover career while at Hatfield Woodhouse primary school, with parts in Change4Life and McDonalds television adverts before she won the role as Abby Hatcher.

The lure of television, however, is not enough to deter her from her chosen career path. “I much prefer being on stage,” she said. “In fact, all my family do – we’re like the Von Trapps!”

Maisie has already had a taste of stage acting in front of a large audience, with a part last Christmas in Nativity the Musical, and says that gave her the ‘itch’ to do it even more.

She is following in her family’s footsteps at Trinity; older sister Molly played an active part in school productions and is now in her final year at the Midlands Academy of Dance & Drama in Nottingham after winning a scholarship on leaving Trinity aged 16.

The girls’ mother, Janet Marsh, is appreciative of the support offered to students pursuing interests outside of the normal school curriculum.

“Maisie had a great time during the transition week and is very excited to be following in her sister’s steps at Trinity Academy,” she said. “Molly enjoyed every minute and Maisie is adamant she will do the same.

“I am thrilled how well Trinity supports students in their talents and places such an emphasis on how character development is so important in young people.”

You can hear Maisie’s work on Abby Hatcher by tuning in to Nick Jr, and Dragons: Rescue Riders on Netflix (you will need to change the audio setting to ‘UK English’). Clips available online only feature the original Canadian/American voices.
